Melanie Musolino, Member of the Board of Directors and Director of Education of Canine Commandos Inc.
In 2012, Melanie stepped in to fill Virginia’s rather large shoes at Longleaf Elementary where the Canine Commando program was integrated. A self-proclaimed dog whisperer and animal empath, Melanie was thrilled to combine her life-long love for nonhumans with the opportunity to help her students become lifelong participants in community service. As a former community service coordinator in an International Baccalaureate school, Melanie feels that planting the seeds of compassion in our students is the greatest gift we can give.
After a year of participating in the program, Melanie’s group of Commandos grew to include two schools, totaling four trips to the shelter every month. With each training session, it became more and more evident that there was a connection between the dogs’ training and the first impression on potential furever families. Melanie believes that whether it’s a potential adopter, shelter employees or volunteers, every interaction with the Commandos leaves one with a smile knowing that the children will grow up to have compassion for animals and advocate for the Don’t Shop, Adopt motto!
